Why we chose our Actress and Actor

After a lot of time we chose to use these two people as our male and female leads.

Bethan Williamson- THE FEMALE LEAD

James Allen- THE MALE LEAD

We have decided to go for these people as they have the ideal visual appearance that we have envisioned for our piece. We also think after the test shots we have carried out we know they will be able to act in the way we need them to portray the story appropriately.

Filming Planning

To ensure we have everything that we need for the making of our trailer we made a list of the various shots and scenes we need. This has provided us with the ability to also list potential others possible shots that will add to our piece.

We have found lists have worked best to illustrate the shots we intend to use and are more easily used when see actually start filming as we then can simply use a picture of the story board rather then taking it with us and struggling whilst on set.

Health and Safety for Filming

We wanted to ensure that we remained safe whilst we filmed as this is vital to the filming.

What do you expect from horror?

Iconic Horror Directors

James Wan is famous for his work in Insidious, The Conjuring and the Saw films, Wan's work has been influential to us as it has allowed us to look into the supernatural possibilities  that we could apply to our work.

Wes Craven is famous for his work The Hills Have Eyes, Nightmare on Elm Street and the massive franchise Scream that has become a phenomenon in the horror industry.

Alfred Hitchcock, arguably the most famous horror directors that has ever lived. His work is famous all over the world but his most famous work includes, Psycho, The Birds and Frenzy. We intend to use similar techniques that he used throughout his films to make normal things that are seen or used everyday scary, to challenge the norms of daily life.

CRIME THRILLER TRAILER - CRAWL
This is similar to the horror but has questions that are give a more interesting storyline

Vs.

HORROR TRAILER - SCREAM 4
This horror is part of a franchise so the overall storyline is clear and well-known for the viewer. Normally horrors like these the slashers have very little meaningful stories behind them but they are still very popular.

Trailer Inspirations

Many trailers have been inspirational to the development of our story line.

Broadchurch is a phenomenon that has spread all over the United Kingdom, it has influenced our trailer based on its method of keeping the audiences in a constant state of in balance and on the edge of their seats. We intend to bring the same adrenaline rush to the audience of our film trailer.

The Boy Next Door, is a very recent and modern film. The trailer suggests a moral conflict within the male lead himself; understanding what is right and what he feels is the challenge he faces. This is revealed within the 2 and a half minute trailer and entices the watcher to find out what the outcomes is. We took inspiration from this as we want to draw the watcher into the story of the male lead and the continual struggle he faces due to his actions.

Music Inspiration

Alex Clare's song, Whispering is the song featured on the 'The Boy Next Door' trailer. It is powerful and builds up to a dramatic peak. We intend to use a similar build up to add tension to our piece.

This is also a very interesting remix of the original Beyonce, we really like the way it is a take on the well known hit; but also makes the trailer more interesting and anticipated.

Leona Lewis' Broken is a song we are very interested as it has lyrics that could relate to the storylines we have considered. We also like the idea of using the song and the songs title potential name of the film itself.

Poster Analysis

As brand cohesion is a very important aspect of the films overall selling point, we analysed the poster for 'American Hustle'. The main features we evaluated the overall layout and whether spoiler were present which would disappoint a potential customer. This is for example, if the poster gives away too much people are less inclined to want to spend money to see it.

Specific Shot Inspiration

We really liked the way these two shots have used normal things and taken specific specially designed shots like slow motion explosions in Inception or the underwater shot in Twilight.

Both are very influential to the work we intend to make as we would like to use more unusual shots to make sure that our piece is effective in our desired affect and also cinematically advanced.

Initial Storyboard

Our initial storyboard is simple yet explains the main aim in which we would like to go down with the thriller and supernatural infusion. Although it is small and simple to begin with, it is important to us that we develop from this and use this to create the best trailer we can.

The lines '/ / ' refer to jumps the orange line to the overall pass of the trailer. The 'T' states the sections that create tension and finally the music notes is where the music peaks or creates an emotion within the audience.

The Notebook Trailer - Todorov Analysis

The Notebook Trailer - Todorov Analysis

The Notebook is a well -known film which is frequently acclaimed for its portrayal of a touching love story. We analysed this based on Todorov's 5 main stages:
  1. Equilibrium
  2. Disruption of equilibrium
  3. Recognition of equilibrium
  4. Repair of damage/issue
  5. New equilibrium

We chose to illustrate our analysis in a timeline, as it allowed us to visually represent the stages of Todorov's theory.

Genre Change Over Time

Genre Change Over Time

Genre has been influenced by many different variables over the years. We chose to research this by dividing key events into three categories, What Came Before, Technology and The Outside World.

Each category allowed us to understand what has implicated film genres as we know them now.

Brief

The Brief

we intend to create a promotional package for a film, which will include a trailer, poster and website homepage.
we hope to end this year with a more developed idea of the effect that promotional packages have on our society today, and we feel, as team that this coursework will be successful in aiding our process of finding this knowledge.
